The K&S wire bonder preheating element—also known as a heating block—is installed beneath the clamp. Its function is to heat the lead frame to 150–200°C prior to wire bonding, thereby enhancing ultrasonic bonding strength. It operates in conjunction with a thermocouple for closed-loop temperature control; surface scratches or excessive temperature variations can directly lead to bond ball displacement or weak/incomplete bonds. It is classified as a consumable, wear-prone part.
